Best Mixes of 2017 - Part 2

Here's the second half - in no particular order. Check out the first six selections here

#7. Octo Octa - Groove Podcast 113

Standout Tracks: The People in Fog, “Higher (Soichi Terada remix),” Mr. G “Road Tested,” Theo Walbeck, “Someone 2night, “ Delicious Inc, “Eau de Chante (For Men)"

Mood: Big grooves from the first track on that manage to stay on the good side of classic, vocal four-to-the-floor. Octo Octa is hot off a stunning RA Sessions, along with a tour that included stops at the Honcho Campout, Sustain Release, Room 4 Resistance. This mix is flush with deep, thoughtful selections that are likely to please any serious fan of house music.

#8. Erika - Resident Advisor Podcast 589

Mood: A devastating, breakneck adventure through the crates from one of Detroit’s best. Not only is it outstanding enough on its own, but seven of its 27-tracks-in-a-blistering-66 minutes are woman-produced. A particularly exceptional podcast that is more than worth your time.

Standout Tracks: Wata Igarashi, “Ciphers (Nuel remix),” Mike Parker & Donato Dozzy, “Opalesce,” Rebekah, “Breathe (Stephanie Sykes remix),”  Mor Elian, “Paralysed Focus”

#9. K-Hand - Dekmantel Podcast 103

Mood: A contemporary techno textbook from one of Detroit’s most underrated artists. K-Hand has a near-20-year history of outstanding house and techno releases on her own label, Acacia, and more recently found her way to Nina Kraviz’ трип. Hypnotic, clean production, and dance floor oriented to the extreme on this one.

Standout Tracks: Enrico Sangiuliano, “Moon Rocks,” Gesaffelstein, “Modern Walk (Marc Houle remix),” Josh Wink, “516 Acid”

#10. Juana - Discwoman 23

Mood: Begins with techno for the post-apocalypse and ends up surprisingly ravey, groovy places. The Chicago-born but DC-based DJ with the Sequence crew specializes in big, rumbling techno that you’ve never heard of, offering one of the freshest takes on modern techno in our list. Big things headed this way for Juana.

Standout Tracks: DJ Lucca, “Private Dancer,” Umi & Nati, “Access,” Bjorn Torwellen, “Banshee”

#11. Shanti Celeste - Dekmantel Festival 2017

Mood: As far as we’re concerned, the Peach Discs/Brstl label founder and NTS Radio host is the sound of house music in the summertime, and this set is a perfect example of it. Dusty, languid tunes effortlessly woven into melodic, funky classics.

Standout Tracks: Beatrice Dillon & Call Super, “Inkjet,” Orbital, “Midnight (Sasha remix),” Florian Kupfer, “Discotag”

#12. Cinthie - XLR8R Mix

Mood: Attention to detail for days from Berlin-based Beste Modus boss Cinthie. Light-hearted, stripped back house from a veteran selector. This one will have you seeking track IDs for days and only gets better with time.

Standout Tracks: Alden Tyrell, “Foot Control,” Folamour, “Devoted to You,” Makam, “How Long Is Now”
