Mix Series: 011 - famous Яtist
Deep minimal grooves coming at you from the San Francisco-based, Ukraine-born famous Яtist in our 11th episode. Inspired by setting a mood and challenging the listener, she strives to contribute her own sound and to shift away from the male status quo in DJing.
What's the best advice you've been given about DJing?
"Avoid making sudden changes when mixing, take your time with each transition."
How did you get into dance music?
"I kind of grew up listening to electronic music. My mom had cassettes in the car with some 90s trance and dance tunes, like Haddaway, Ace of Base, and La Bouche that we would listen to when driving. Over the years I learned what kinds of sounds I like and by doing some research I ultimately ended up underground."
Who influences you?
"Every track that I hear in one way or another. I think of tracks as colors that you can mix in unlimited number of ways to create something completely unique and beautiful, and that's what really excites me about music and DJing."
